Para legar a la estrella debes tomar la ruta 5 sur hasta llegar a Rancagua luego doblas hacia la derecha y debes ir a Doñihue, pasando coltauco y llegando a Peumo. Luego subes hacia Pichidegua y doblas hacia Marchigue y luego pasa por el cruce las rosa y avanzas hasta el primer corte y llegas a La Estrella

El nombre de la comuna es atribuido al convento del mismo nombre fundado en 1635. ese año , la congregación de los sacerdotes católicos agustinos de Santiago deciden fundar el convento de La Estrella, con acuerdo de los encomenderos que explotaban estas tierras, con el objeto de adoctrinar o catequizar a lo indios de vivían en sus previos. con el tiempo aumentaron el números de sacerdotes que habitaron este lugar dando origen al convento de la congregacion de los padres agustinos.
